The estranged wife of former NFL star Earl Thomas was arrested this week and accused of defrauding him out of $2.7million, according to a report.
Nina Thomas, who filed for divorce from the Super Bowl-winning defensive back in 2020, is accused in court documents obtained by TMZ of beginning a plot to steal money from him the following year.
And according to the outlet, she was charged with multiple counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, money laundering and aggravated identity theft this week.
Nina allegedly spent some of the millions she is said to have stolen on an Hermes Birkin handbag and breast implants.
She was taken into custody on December 16 before being released.
Documents accuse Nina of working with another, unnamed person in defrauding Thomas and moving his money into their own bank accounts.
Last year, Nina’s boyfriend was arrested for stealing the NFL star’s identity in an alleged $1.9million scam.
Kevin J. Thompson was taken in by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office back in June 2023.
Per NOLA.com , Thompson is alleged to have cashed Thomas’ NFL checks, stolen from his bank account, and transferred car ownership for a number of vehicles.
He was charged with identity theft, forgery, money laundering, credit card fraud, computer fraud, and bank fraud.
It is unclear if the two cases are related.
In August of 2022, Thomas’ home was left devastated by a huge fire in Orange County, Texas.
Months earlier, in May 2022, he was arrested at Spanky’s Bar and Grill on a warrant out of Austin for a violation of a court protective order.
That initially stemmed from him allegedly sending threatening messages to his wife about her and their children.
It was reported at the time that Thomas was booked into the Orange County Jail and soon bonded out, with his bond set at $15,000.
The original May 2021 protective order requires him to communicate with Nina only through a co-parenting phone application, and she claimed he was refusing to download the app and showed up unannounced at places she was visiting, according to the police affidavit.
In May 2020, Thomas’ wife was arrested after she was accused of pointing a loaded pistol at his head after breaking into a vacation home and finding him with another woman.
She filed for divorce in November of that year.
