Cooper Rush breaks his silence and reveals the truth about his surprising departure from the Cowboys after eight years.

The Dallas Cowboys are looking for a backup quarterback for the upcoming season after losing Cooper Rush in free agency. Rush signed a two-year contract to join the Baltimore Ravens as Lamar Jackson’s backup.

Thus ended Cooper Rush’s era with the Cowboys, after eight seasons. Last year, with Dak Prescott’s injury, Rush posted a 4-4 record as a starter, with 12 touchdown passes and 1,844 passing yards.

Now officially a new player for the Baltimore Ravens, Rush spoke on the “The Lounge” podcast and shared his first thoughts. He was surprised that the Ravens showed interest in him for the next two seasons.

“It kind of came out of nowhere, and [I] was super excited when my agent said the Ravens called,” Rush said. “Obviously, from afar there in Dallas, you see the Ravens are a well-run, good organization. Obviously, tons of success, especially recently. So, I was like, wow, O.K., this is sweet. It materialized, and here we are.”

Rush is now part of the American Football Conference with a team that will surely contend for the championship next season. The former quarterback will take on the same role as he did with the Cowboys, but now as Lamar Jackson’s backup, a two-time NFL MVP.

“It’s really exciting to be on a good team,” Rush said. “You get to 9-5, we had some good teams down there in Dallas, so you don’t have to play out of yourself. You can play within yourself, do your job, rely on your teammates, and I think you have a similar situation here. Really good offense. Just kind of go do your job, get the ball to the fast guys, let them work, and do whatever you need to do to go win.”

With a solid defense and explosive offense, the Ravens will again be contenders, and Rush is fully excited about the new challenge ahead in his career.
