In a heartfelt interview with ESPN’s E:60, Dak reveals that he still writes a letter to his mom before each game as a way of expressing his love and gratitude. He describes her as the person he vents to and shares his innermost thoughts with. “She’s the person I vent to,” Dak says, adding, “I pull out my phone and start writing.”

For Dak, this ritual is not just about honoring his mother’s memory but also about reflecting on his humble beginnings. Growing up in a trailer park in Princeton, Louisiana, Dak remembers his mother’s unwavering support. He recalls how she would pick him up from football practice even when she was unwell.

During his sophomore year of college in 2013, Dak made the difficult decision to take a leave of absence from football to care for his ailing mother. He explains: “I mean, I had to help her up and help her walk to the bathroom at those times. And that was the turning point.” It was a challenging time for Dak as he had to put his dreams on hold to be there for his mother.

The loss of his mother has left a void in his life, and he admits that it’s difficult not having her around.

Dak’s dedication to his mother’s memory is evident in his performance on the field. With every touchdown he scores, he takes a moment to honor her. Whether it’s pointing to the sky or saying a silent prayer, Dak ensures that his mother’s presence is felt during those special moments.
